We're starting small to get everything right and provide hands-on support for each customer, with us delivering to you in person (South West / Midlands area only). Expect expansion after this initial release.
Just like Home Assistant, the Cosy Display is a local-first device. Once it's in your hands, we have zero visibility into your energy usage or routines.
Your heating habits are your business, not ours.
Not entirely, but it provides a better experience for the most common use case: seeing your heating status at a glance. The app gives you control and detailed settings; the Cosy Display gives you instant visibility without reaching for your phone. Think of it as a dedicated heating dashboard rather than a replacement.
No. The Cosy Display is a maker's project built by an enthusiast to solve a real problem in the Octopus Cosy community. It's not affiliated with or endorsed by Octopus Energy, but it facilitates your use of their publicly available API. We're operating transparently, with no hidden agenda - just removing friction between your household's heating control.
Good question. We monitor their API carefully and are identifying the feasibility of keeping the device firmware updated. That said, Octopus may deprecate certain API functionalities, but rarely removes them entirely.
Yes. The Cosy Display is designed to work seamlessly with both single-zone and dual-zone heat pump setups. During the setup, you can select dual-zone or single zone configuration and the device will display the relevant zones, setpoints, and boost controls for your specific system.
Yes, it needs WiFi to fetch real-time data from Octopus Energy's API. However, there's no cloud dependency—your display connects directly to Octopus Energy. If your WiFi drops, the device will stay in its last known state and reconnect automatically when the network returns.
For out-of-the-box installs, Octopus does not expose heat pump flow or return temperatures via their API. The Cosy Hub includes four ADC inputs, one of which is used for hot water cylinder sensing.
A 10K NTC 3950 Waterproof Temperature Probe can be connected to the Cosy Hub to measure your flow or return pipes. Once installed, these readings can be displayed on your Cosy Display to show live flow and return metrics.
Note: We do not take responsibility for the installation of additional temperature sensors.
Absolutely. The Cosy Display is local-first, just like Home Assistant. Your API keys are stored on the device itself, not on our servers. We have zero visibility into your heating patterns or energy usage. The device talks directly to Octopus Energy—no middleman, no cloud, no tracking. Your heating habits are your business.
The display will show clear visual indicators for faults (with error codes if available) and defrost cycles. You'll see exactly what's happening, when it started, and how long it's expected to last. This transparency removes the confusion around normal heat pump behaviour like defrosting and helps you spot real issues quickly.
